GTK+ or The GIMP Toolkit Plus GUI builder presents itself as a multi-platform toolkit that provides a full library to help to easily develop and build the graphical user interface of a software application. With a fully featured set of widgets, GTK+ is adaptable from small projects to large program suites.
The GIMP Toolkit is free graphical interface utility being GNU LGPL licensed under the GNU Project. It may be used by all software developers without license fees or royalties regardless of what project they want to develop.
It consists of three main interface libraries: GLib low-level core library for data structure building, object handling and runtime functionality, Pango for layout, text and font handling and rendering, and the ATK library for GUI accessibility tools such as creen readers, magnifiers, and substitute input devices.
It is currently used by certain applications interfaces like The GIMP and Pidgin and therefore you are required to install it in order to run these programs.
