WinSCP was made as an open source program with functionality of SFTP client and FTP client for Windows. Its main goal is to ensure a protected file transfer form a local to a remote computer. To enable the secure file transfer, it provides a Windows Explorer-like file manager interface to perform all standard files operations and utilizes Protected Shell (SSH) protocol. Along with Secure FTP WinSCP also works with the SCP protocol. The support for SFTP and SCP protocols is made over SSH-1 and SSH-2 and plain old FTP protocol.
